I wanted to write and applaud
Griff Singer and his team for a wonderful training workshop in Austin. He
is an invaluable asset to the Dow Jones program, and you (and we) are lucky
to have him.
Our workshop not only taught us mechanical skills that will aid us in our
careers; it lent itself to the sharing of wisdom that cannot be learned in a
classroom. Griff's knowledge of and enthusiasm for journalism were an
inspiration to me -- he reminded me why I want to go into this business.
The 13 interns in Austin formed a remarkable bond in our two weeks there --
it is one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done. I know I speak for
all of us when I say thanks for this opportunity and for putting us in Griff
Singer's capable hands.

I can say with all honesty that the
summer I spent as a Newspaper Fund Intern did more to prepare me for my
journalism career, and did more to shape me as a journalist, than any
thing else I did or experienced.
Bruce Dunning, 1961 reporting intern, Asbury Park (N.J.) Press
I was a Newspaper Fund intern in 1961 spending that summer as a reporter for
the Asbury Park Press. The summer after graduating I worked at the New Brunswick Home News and went to the Columbia J school the next year.
I subsequently worked for the Long Island Press, the St. Petersburg (Fla.)
Times and the International Herald Tribune. While I was at the Herald, I
started stringing for CBS News and was eventually offered a staff job. I
have been with CBS for more than 30 years, most of the time spent in Asia.
In 1981, I opened the CBS bureau in Beijing after which I was back in the
U.S. for several years. I was an on-air correspondent for some years but
since 1983 have been on the management side. Since 1989, I have been Asia
bureau chief for CBS based in Tokyo.
If it hadn't been for the NF, I wouldn't have had such a terrific life these past 40 years or so.
Brian Gonzalez, 2001 online intern, South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com, Fort Lauderdale
This summer, I served as an intern in the Office of Public
Affairs at NASA-Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. It was an
excellent experience that built on the skills and background that the
DJNF online editing program provided. The DJNF program was a extremely valuable experience, and I am
tremendously grateful for the opportunities that it has presented me. I
truly appreciate the alumni opportunities with DJNF and would like to
thank you all for a job well done.
Diya Gullapalli, 2001 business reporting intern, The Columbus
The pre-internship residency was excellent because it was
intensive in the true sense. I loved how focused we were and how we learned
about both business and journalism.
Bob King, 1986 editing intern, The Palm Beach Post
Yours is an
incredibly valuable program that has contributed a lot to my career in
newspapers, and I am glad to see that it is still going strong. Thank you!
Heather Wecsler, 1996 editing intern, Medford (Ore.) Mail Tribune
truly think your internship program is one of the greatest training tools
available to aspiring journalists. Please let me know if there is anything I can
do for DJNF.
Jason Yates, 2000 editing intern, The Palm Beach
The internship established the fact I do want to be a copy editor
and increased my love for journalism. It did not feel like a job. I could not
believe I was getting paid for it because it was too enjoyable.
Felix Doligosa, Jr., 2001 business reporting intern, The Denver
As my internship started rolling, frustration turned into
excitement. By the end, I didn't want it to end because I was falling in

This internship and the Dow Jones residency boosted my
confidence in my skills and myself. I felt accomplished because I was chosen to
be part of an elite program and because I succeeded in a professional

The guidance I got from Dow Jones Newspaper Fund helped me choose my

there is always something like the Fund out there for aspiring
